Why take your vehicle to an auto mechanic when there are so many quick oil change shops out there? Because

when we change your oil, we perform an inspection to help prevent an issue in the future that might leave you stranded.

That’s what makes Allegiance Automotive your best choice for an oil change in Paso Robles and Templeton! Your safety is our top priority. We can still get you in, out, and back on the road without taking up too much of your time, but our team wants to make sure your car is safe for you. Why wait in a line on your lunch break for a quick lube shop just to have them only check your oil and nothing more? Or worse, one of our team members was once shown an air filter that was filthy but didn’t even belong to her car – just so they could make a quick buck. Luckily, she knew her car better than that and called them out on it, but who wants to go through the hassle? We want you to trust us with your routine oil changes and know that we’re looking out for you and your car.

Regular and VIP oil changes in Paso Robles

While our oil change service is still quick and convenient,

it’s our attention to your safety that really makes us different.

With all oil changes, we check your oil filter, coolant, power steering fluid, air filter, and even your windshield washer fluid (because who wants to run out of that when a bug hits your glass)! With our VIP oil change, we go even further with a multi-point inspection (a GREAT way to start off a new hot or cold season!). Our multi-point inspection includes checking your transmission or clutch fluid; in-cabin filter; all lights like your headlights, taillights, and turn signals; drive belts and hoses; shock absorbers, struts and suspension; exhaust system; possible points for fluid leaks; tire wear; brake condition; battery; alternator; and more! We’ll give you a full report of our maintenance inspection so you can be prepared if and when something needs to be repaired or replaced. A routine oil change at our shop in Paso Robles is your chance to have a pair of expert hands go over your car. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

And we offer appointments! Getting an oil change can feel like an inconvenience on your schedule. We know you’re busy! That’s why we offer appointments. If you need to take care of your oil change during the lunch hour, just call us or use our

Not sure if you need an oil change? Many newer vehicles have a warning light that will come on, but if you’re not sure, simply bring your car in and

Routine oil changes are so important because the oil in your vehicle lubricates the engine and absorbs heat in the process, allowing your engine components to work without resistance or overheating. But over time, the oil breaks down. Getting a routine oil change can help give you the peace of mind that your engine will have a long life.

How Often Should I Change My Oil?

How often should you get an oil change in Paso Robles? Every 3,000 miles or every 5,000 miles?

At our auto repair shop in Paso Robles, oil changes are a
common service and we are often asked by customers if they should be getting
their oil changed every 3,000 or 5,000 miles.
The answer may surprise you!

Your owner’s manual is the first place you should look to
determine the interval for oil changes as the design of the engine is a major
factor. But it isn’t the only
factor. If your owner’s manual suggests
an oil change every 3,000 miles it is their recommendation without knowing you
and your driving habits. Newer vehicles
will often suggest an oil change every 5,000 miles, but it’s the same story –
it’s their recommendation without taking everything into account, like the age
of your vehicle; 5,000 miles might be right when it is still new, but that may
change over time.

         Short-Trip Vehicle
Oil Changes

When we’re asked about an oil change in Paso Robles, we
usually ask a few questions to learn about your driving habits: are most of
your trips in town or on the highway; do you regularly drive less than 10 miles
each way; how old is your vehicle; how many miles are on your vehicle? The answers here matter. If the majority of your trips in your car,
truck, or SUV are under 10 miles each way, you’re putting a lot of wear and
tear on your engine by starting it frequently and your engine isn’t getting hot
enough to boil off excess condensation or moisture in the system, which means
you need an oil change more often. In
fact, some vehicles should be getting their oil changed every 1,000 miles,
although this isn’t common. 1,000-mile
oil changes are more common for commercial vehicles that start and stop their
engines frequently, but in today’s age of ride share services and food
delivery, some non-commercial vehicles need frequent oil changes, too.

Now, if you drive short trips but drive infrequently, you’ll
be looking at time and not mileage. If
you put less than 10,000 miles per year on your vehicle, you’ll want to
schedule your oil change for every 6 months, regardless of mileage, as the oil
breaks down over time even without being driven.

If you commute for work, you’ll rack up the mileage fasterand, more importantly, your vehicle is likely seeing mostly highway and freewaymileage, which means less-frequent oil changes. Cars less than 10 years old that mostly go on long commutes at higherspeeds can actually go longer between oil changes and wait until every 5,000miles. Some drivers prefer to use

in their vehicles and for commuters, this can mean you’ll only need an oilchange every 10,000 miles. Switching tosynthetic isn’t necessary for everyone, but vehicles that do heavy hauling orare prone to oil build up (called sludge) can have benefits that outweigh thecosts of the synthetic oil.

Most drivers are somewhere in the middle between trips under
10 miles and long stretches at freeway-speeds.
For this reason, many manufacturers suggest an oil change every
3,000-5,000 miles. Newer vehicles may
have a sensor that looks for dirty oil, but checking the dipstick is still a
tried-and-true way to check the status of your oil and we’re happy to check
your oil free of charge. If you don’t
remember when your last oil change was, or if you think your driving patterns
have the need for more frequent oil changes, stop on by our auto repair shop in
Paso Robles and we’ll take a look for you.
If you’ve had your oil changed with us in the past, we can always look
up what your mileage was at your last change.

There are a fair number of dirt roads around Paso Robles, and many people who drive out onto ranches and vineyards through dirt paths. While rock chips are the most common problem with dirt roads, the next biggest issue happens to be air filters getting clogged. Your vehicle likely has two air filters: one for the engine and the other for inside the cabin. Both air filters should be replaced at every-other oil change. Most air filters have a lifespan of 12,000-15,000 miles (check your owner’s manual for the specifications for your vehicle under your

There is nothing more important to your safety while driving than a good set of brakes. There are several components involved in the braking system depending on your vehicle, but we see brake pads, shoes, and rotors needing to be replaced more often in the Paso Robles area. This might be due to all of the dirt roads or it might be due to the fact that many of us put on more in-town miles on our vehicles than freeway miles, and in-town driving requires a lot of starting and stopping. Because we know brakes are a common auto repair need in Paso Robles, we often have a coupon for brake repairs on our

Replacing windshield wiper blades is a common auto repair that many people feel comfortable with doing themselves. Most wiper blades are only meant to last 6 months to 1 year before they’ll start to squeak or chatter and you’ll see a noticeable difference in their wiping abilities. Since we have hot, dry summers, that rubber will surely crack so we recommend sticking to that 1-year lifespan and replacing your blades every year rather than waiting to see if they are ‘good enough’ to get the job done. Remember, we want you to be safe out there!

An Oil Change is probably the most common service yourvehicle gets. We love performing oilchanges at our shop in Paso Robles because it lets us stay in touch with ourcustomers. But what we have found overthe years is that many people don’t know much about the oil that goes intotheir car. There are different types ofoil and it’s important to know their differences so you can make the rightchoice for your vehicle. If you are lookingfor an oil change in Paso Robles, come by and see us and we will gladly reviewyour options with you, but if you’re still deciding, here it is in a nutshell:

What You Should Know About Oil Types Before Your Next Oil
Change

          1. There are 3 categories of oil: Conventional, Blended, and Synthetic. You may have been asked in the past about which type of oil you wanted at an oil change but only saw the price difference without knowing much else. That’s ok! Read on and you’ll be able to make an informed decision next time.

          2. Conventional oil is often the cheapest. It’s refined, petroleum-based oil without any additives. And while you may think of this as a paleo diet for your car, the truth is that it is most likely to create sludge build-ups in your engine, which will hurt its lifespan.

          3. Blended oil is the most commonly used oil in oil changes (unless you’re going to a super-deep-discount shop which might use Conventional oil as their most common oil). This oil is a blend of Conventional oil and Synthetic oil, which makes it cheaper than a completely synthetic oil. Blends offer more lubrication, heat distribution, longevity, and sludge prevention than a Conventional Oil which are all important for your engine and makes Blended oil worth the extra cost. Afterall, here in Paso Robles we love blended wines, right? So just remember that blended is better.

          4. Synthetic oils are completely manufactured by purifying crude oil and breaking it down to the molecular level. This process removes impurities which adds even better lubrication, heat distribution, and sludge prevention than either a Conventional oil or a Blended oil. Synthetic oils are designed to resist breaking down and remain intact through temperature changes. They are the go-to oil for high-performance engines and engines that need the added benefits.

          5. There is a fourth type of oil that will show up as an oil change option, but it falls under the category of Blended: High-Mileage oil or High-Mileage Blend oil. Engines with over 75,000 miles on them will benefit from switching to a Blended oil specifically formulated for older engines. 75,000 miles may not seem “old” in the life of a vehicle as they are lasting much, much longer now, but after about 75,000 miles, your engine becomes more susceptible to oxidization, sludge build-up (from getting those cheaper oil changes before you knew better), and seals beginning to crack. High-Mileage Blended oil includes detergents to clean out sludge and extra lubricants to protect seals and gaskets, along with anti-oxidants to keep corrosion at bay. If you have a vehicle with 75,000 or more miles on it, consider switching to a High-Mileage Blended oil to preserve and extend the lifespan of your car, truck, or SUV.

The next decision you’ll need to make at an oil change is
about the oil filter. Thankfully, this
is an easy decision to make – change it!
The oil filter should be changed at every oil change. And while there are different brands of oil
filters, there are not different types. Some people and some auto repair shops
will have a brand preference, but that can be said about almost anything.

Oil changes are incredibly important to your vehicle. Be sure you’re getting one every 3,000 – 5,000 miles (based on your vehicle’s manufacturer recommendation). If you don’t remember how long its been since your last oil change, bring your car in to our shop in Paso Robles and we can check your oil free of charge and let you know if you’re ready for an oil change in your vehicle.
